Songs about love, belonging, and breaking away.

About jay

Jay is a UK-based artist whose music explores love, belonging, and the quiet fallout of breaking away from the worlds that shaped you. Growing up between cultures and communities, her writing often sits in the space between staying and leaving; tenderness and resistance held side by side.

Her songs have been described as genre-defying, blending intimate storytelling with cinematic textures. They are rooted in lived experience, written for people who have felt themselves become smaller in order to survive, and who are learning how to take up space again.

Jay first received radio play in 2018 when Bob Fischer played her on BBC Radio Tees, later going on to receive national airplay on BBC 6 Music. She is a Sage Summer Studios alumna and a recipient of the Do It Differently Fund through Help Musicians.

Her single American Tennessee was selected in BBC Introducing Tees’ Best of 2021, won Track of the Week, and was shortlisted in the final 50 of the Road to Nashville International Song Contest from over 20,000 entries.

In 2022, Jay was selected for the Co-Pilot mentoring scheme, working with Martha D Lewis. She has performed across the UK and supported artists including MG Boulter, Ren Lawton, Amelia Coburn, Jodie Nicholson, and Serious Sam.

Jay released her self-titled album in 2023 with support from Help Musicians. She is currently working on new material, with the next release due in 2025.
